About

Biography

Tajammul Kaleem was a highly influential, contemporary revolutionary Punjabi poet who left an indelible mark on West Punjab’s literary landscape. Writing in the Shahmukhi script, Kaleem possessed a rare, spellbinding ability to compose deeply evocative, philosophical, and politically conscious Punjabi ghazals and nazms (poems).

What truly set Kaleem apart was his incredible ability to bridge cultural divides and unite readers across borders. He achieved widespread acclaim in both Western (Pakistan) and Eastern (India) Punjab. His highly celebrated book, Kamaal Karde O Badshaho, gained such massive popularity among readers in East Punjab that it was transliterated into the Gurmukhi script, ensuring that his artistic brilliance could be accessed by a broader, undivided audience.

Art as a Weapon for the Common Man: Kaleem's poetic voice routinely spoke truth to power. He refused to look away from harsh realities, seamlessly interweaving the raw, everyday pain of the working class with profound themes of existential longing, heartbreak, and romance.

Throughout his career, he enriched Punjabi literature with several prominent published works, most notably Barfan Heth Tandoor (1996), Vehre Da Rukh (2010), and Chikda Manzar (2017). Tajammul Kaleem passed away in May 2025 in Lahore, leaving behind a rich, defiant poetic legacy that continues to vibrate through the hearts of younger generations and the global Punjabi diaspora.
